Michał Miegoń
Senate of the Republic of Poland, Warsaw
18.02.2026 – 25.03.2026
Vernissage: 18.02.2026
Ten decades, each of which was a step towards fulfilling the vision of a Poland open to the world. According to one of the definitions, Gdynia was the greatest social uprising of the second Republic of Poland, thanks to which a modern port and the city surrounding it were created. In turn, according to the opinion of new residents, Gdynia was our Polish El Dorado, the Wild West and New York all rolled into one.
From the miracle of modernism, through the turbulent times of war, the winds of change in the 1970s and 1980s, to setting trends in everyday life and local politics after 1989: Gdynia, like a radar, picked up on all social and political phenomena, filtering them through the energy derived from the city’s pioneering days.
The Senate of the Republic of Poland has passed a resolution to designate 2026 as the Year of the City of Gdynia. The centenary of Gdynia obtaining city rights is an opportunity to take a journey back in time – from the present day to the city’s beginnings. The collections of the Museum of the City of Gdynia and the unique exhibits of the Naval Museum in Gdynia serve as a compass for this journey.
10 decades. 10 stories. 100 years.
